KUCHING (March 3): A shop at Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha here is facing a fine of up to RM2,000, six months’ imprisonment, or both after being issued a notice for operating unauthorised pet grooming and boarding activities.

In a statement, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) said Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, accompanied by councillors and enforcement officers, conducted an inspection at the premises following complaints from nearby residents.

Residents had raised concerns over continuous barking, unpleasant odours and hygiene issues, which they said were affecting the surrounding commercial area.

On-site verification confirmed that MBKS does not issue licences for pet grooming and boarding operations at the location.

The council subsequently issued a formal notice under Section 113 of the Local Authorities Ordinance, 1996, requiring the operator to abate the nuisance and take necessary remedial measures to prevent further disturbances.

Wee stressed that strict compliance with local authority regulations is mandatory and warned that enforcement action will be taken against those who flout the rules.

“Businesses must operate responsibly and ensure their activities do not affect public health, sanitation, or the peace of nearby occupants,” he said.

He added that MBKS remains committed to safeguarding community wellbeing and maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment through firm but fair enforcement.
