SIBU (Aug 27): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a director of an enforcement agency in Kuching for allegedly accepting bribes from a subsidised diesel smuggling syndicate in Sibu.
According to sources, the male suspect, who is in his 40s, was detained at the Sarawak MACC office at 6.20pm today to have his statement recorded.
“The suspect is believed to have received bribes from the syndicate in return for not taking enforcement and legal action against the diesel smuggling activities in Sibu.
“The arrest of the suspect follows a raid conducted by MACC’s Special Operations Division during Ops Liter at an oil storage depot in Sungai Bidut here on Sunday,” said the source.
Meanwhile, MACC’s Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
