SIBU (Nov 4): Sibu has the market opportunities for the entertainment industry that extends beyond music to film, digital content, cultural performances, and creative arts, says Sibu MP Oscar Ling.

The parliamentarian also expresses his belief of the town’s immense potential that has yet to be fully tapped.

“Right here in Malaysia, the entertainment industry contributes significantly to our economy, generating billions of ringgit and creating thousands of jobs.

“It is a market brimming with opportunities that extends beyond music to include film, digital content, cultural performances, and creative arts,” he said at the launch party for the first edition of Rajang River Music Festival (RRMF) here, on Saturday night.

Adding on, Oscar regarded events like the Rajang River Music Festival, as ‘being essential for showcasing local talents, nurturing new ideas, and positioning the town as a hub for artistic expressions’.

“By investing in our creative sectors, we are not just promoting arts and culture; we are fuelling a powerful economic engine that has the potential to uplift our entire community,” he said.

Oscar added that to tap into its full potential and in creating a creative economy, he underscored the need to have more concrete and sustainable support for the entertainment industry players.

“This includes having platforms such as this festival, as well as investing in creative education, fostering public-private partnerships, and ensuring access to technology and resources that can elevate our artists’ work to global standards.”

Meanwhile, organising chairman Christopher Ling said the first edition of RRMF would be staged on Robert’s Wooden House, at Jalan Kong Yit Khim here, running from Jan 18 to 19 next year.

The selection of name for the festival, according to him, was inspired by the Rajang River, the longest river in Malaysia that ‘flows through the soul of this land’.
