SIBU (April 9): A cash prize of RM1,388 awaits the grand prize winner of a lucky draw contest at a ‘Gong Xi Raya’ celebration taking place at SMI Park here this Saturday.
The event, starting at 6pm, is organised by Komuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew together with the village security and development committees (JKKK) of Jalan Quarry, Bandar Sibu, Sungai Parah, Bukit Igu, Sungai Sadit Kiri, Sungai Sadit Kanan, and Sungai Tasan Ensurai.
Komuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew chairman Penghulu Wong Ung said the event combines Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“It symbolises shared joy and unity while showcasing harmony and cultural integration in Malaysia’s multicultural society. People of all ethnic groups are warmly invited to participate and celebrate together,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
He said the celebration aims to strengthen ties among communities and allow residents of diverse backgrounds to deepen interaction and friendships in a festive atmosphere.
“Through multicultural performances and interactive activities, participants can appreciate traditional cultures and better understand the value of diversity, thereby promoting social harmony,” he added.
Wong said the evening will feature an exciting lineup of performances, including an energetic show by Kaki Seni Gerhayu Sibu, as well as well-known Sarawak singers including Winnie Albert, Peter Aaron Wee, Yong Ing Hock, Wong Teck Ho, Michael Yao, Tang Hong Mee, Ling Sing Jin, and Lau Ee Ling.
“In addition, the first 1,500 visitors will receive ‘angpow’ and door gifts. We are expecting about 2,000 visitors to the event.”
On the lucky draw, Wong said all prizes are in cash, with RM1,388 as the grand prize, RM888 for second prize, RM588 for third, RM388 for fourth, and RM288 for fifth.
“Prizes of RM100 will also be given to 10 winners, and another 10 prizes of RM50 each,” he said.
Wong added that Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will be the guest of honour at the event.
“This celebration not only brings communities closer but also highlights values of unity, inclusiveness and sharing.
“We encourage the public to attend with family and friends to witness this meaningful and festive occasion in a warm and lively atmosphere,” he said.
