ADVERTISE HERE
SIBU (Oct 25): Some 65 pupils, parents and teachers from SJKC Shing Kok and SJKC Chih Mong here recently took part in an anti-drug campaign jointly hosted by the two schools.
National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) officer Suliza Yusuf was invited to speak on the issue of drug abuse and the danger of becoming an addict.
“I’ve been serving in AADK for 16 years, and have helped many drug users to kick the habit.
“Drugs can damage organs and affect the brain and blood vessels. Do not give in to peer pressure to try any form of illicit drugs,” she said during the session.
To the parents, Suliza reminded them to monitor their children for any sudden change in behaviour, and to exercise caution if they start to frequently ask for money.
“Check with your children’s teachers on how they are doing in school. Also, make it a point to know who your children are friends with and what is their background.”
She also said those who know or suspect a family member of abusing drugs can contact 1800-22-2235 or 019-6262233 to report their name, age and address.
The session also saw participants being briefed on the relevant laws and punishments for drug offences and other crimes.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between SJKC Shing Kok and AADK, Sibu Prisons Department, Akrab Association and SJKC Chih Mong for future collaborations.
