ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING: A joint patrol operation between the Malaysian Army (TDM) and the Indonesian National Army (TNI-AD) successfully thwarted the entry of six illegal immigrants (PATI) at the Malaysian-Indonesian border today (Aug 10).
The operation took place near the GABMA Biawak post, where the joint forces carried out two separate expulsions.
According to a statement made by Commander of the 1st Infantry Division, Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamisinent, the first group comprising four individuals was intercepted at 9.45 am, followed by the second group of two persons which was apprehended at 11.50 am.
“Both incidents occurred approximately 150 to 200 metres from the Indonesian border, near a frequently used illegal entry route. The six individuals, aged between 25 and 49, were detained by the combined forces while attempting to enter Malaysia for work.
“Upon inspection, no illegal or dangerous items were found on the detainees, with their possessions, including cash, mobile phones, wallets, and clothing, valued at RM5,455.
“Following the arrests, all six individuals were returned to the border for deportation. A police report was filed at Lundu Police Station to ensure that the deportation process adhered to current regulations,” he said.
He noted that since January, there have been 21 similar operations, resulting in the deportation of 157 illegal immigrants in 2024.
He affirmed that the Malaysian Army remains committed to tightening border security to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty against illegal entry, smuggling, and cross-border crimes.
