MIRI (Sept 6): Deputy Minister of Public Health and Local Government Datuk Micheal Tiang has been named the recipient of the 2024 GlobeSync Sustainable Community Leader awards.

Other individual and organisational recipients are Dr Sarah Wamala Anderson, Japri Bujang Masli, Dayang Jok, Professor Dr Tin Tin Su, and Norxin International Science and Technology Cooperation Base.

The award presentation ceremony was held in conjunction with the Globesync Community Research and Sustainability Conference (GlobeCoReS 2024), held here from Sept 3 to 4.

Tiang, in his speech at the GlobeCoReS 2024 gala dinner and award presentation ceremony here on Wednesday, said the state government welcomed ideas and feedback to help shape good policies.

“GlobeCoReS has brought together minds from various disciplines, whereby the ideas and strategies presented are not just concepts but are the building blocks of a future, where we bridge the gaps between present needs and future aspirations,” he said.

“As the deputy minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, I am proud to say that our commitment to housing development and public health sustainability is unwavering,” he added.

“Let us all commit to fostering the partnerships and initiatives that have been sparked here at GlobeCoReS 2024.

“Together, we can build futures that are not only sustainable but also inclusive and prosperous for all,” he said, in making a call to action for all leaders and award winners.

Earlier, Curtin Malaysia’s acting pro vice-chancellor cum chief executive Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen in his opening address remarked that this year’s conference served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration and innovation in today’s world.

He said the convergence of ideas and expertise from scholars, practitioners, policymakers and community leaders from around the world would help lay the foundations and pathways towards a more equitable, sustainable future.
