SIBU (March 18): The Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) 2026 continues to demonstrate the state government’s commitment to easing the cost of living, particularly for low-income groups.
Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, said the initiative reflects the government’s ongoing concern for the people’s welfare.
He said SKAS is not merely a continuation of assistance, but a clear demonstration of the government’s proactive approach in addressing rising living costs.
“SKAS is a direct intervention by the Sarawak government to address rising living costs caused by increasing prices of goods, which continue to put pressure on the people, especially those in the lower-income group.
“This year is particularly meaningful as SKAS enters its second year of implementation, demonstrating the government’s continued commitment to ensuring the well-being of the people remains a priority,” he said during the SKAS 2026 launch for Nangka constituency at Bisonte Grocer & Deli here.
Sayed Azmee said the state government has increased the aid amount this year: from RM800 to RM950 for households, RM400 to RM500 for senior citizens, and RM250 to RM300 for single individuals, and distributed in three phases – March 10, May, and November.
He also urged recipients to utilise the assistance responsibly in line with its intended purpose.
“More than 90 per cent of SKAS recipients this year have registered with S Pay Global, and the number continues to grow daily.
“With wider adoption of this platform, the government will be able to channel future aid in a more targeted and effective manner,” he added.
Also present were Sibu Rural District Council chairman Councillor Sempurai Petrus Ngelai and the council secretary Ng Siang Wee.
