SIBU (Aug 18): Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) has seen increasing visitor numbers each year due to improved road connectivity in the central region, said Clarence Ting.

In this regard, the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman hoped that the people will continue to support BCF in years to come.

“Each year, BCF has been growing from strength to strength with people’s support.

“Let us in Sibu show others in the state that ‘Sibu Boleh’,” he said when officiating the closing of BCF 2024 here last night.

Earlier, Ting explained that the festival was held in August this year to accommodate the 18th Biennial Participatory Design Conference (PDC) 2024 hosted by the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS).

“More than 200 foreign delegates from all over the world came to Sibu for the conference.

“We are glad that our organising committee was able to adjust BCF to coincide with the conference schedule.

“Next year, BCF will be organised in July,” he said.

Ting also thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Performing Arts (MTCP) and sponsors for their invaluable contributions towards BCF 2024.

Among those present were MTCP Arts, Culture and Heritage Section principal assistant secretary Dr Elena Chai, Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government senior principal assistant secretary Konsil Genam, SMC secretary Yong Ing Chu, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, Senator Robert Lau, Temenggong Stanley Geramong, SMC deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley and Datuk Teo Boon Siew.
