KUCHING (March 5): Llamalítica, a Spanish company specialising in artificial intelligence solutions for the healthcare sector has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) – a government agency.
The MoU covers collaboration on the development and implementation of AI-powered tools aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and improving quality of life across both urban and rural communities.
“This strategic agreement aligns with Sarawak’s broader digital transformation agenda and its ambition to position itself as a regional leader in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies,” Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) said in a statement.
The partnership was strengthened during Sarawak’s participation in the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, where the state showcased its investment priorities through 2030, with a strong focus on digital infrastructure, connectivity, AI innovation, and technology-enabled public services.
The collaboration between Llamalítica and SAIC is grounded in a shared vision: leveraging artificial intelligence to strengthen healthcare systems, promote equitable access to care, and improve clinical outcomes through scalable and adaptable digital solutions tailored to diverse demographic and geographic contexts.
SMA said Llamalítica brings to the partnership its expertise in generative AI specifically designed for healthcare environments.
Its technology supports clinical decision-making, reduces administrative burden, and streamlines patient-centred workflows, SMA said.
“The platform enables the secure integration of AI agents into clinical processes, ensuring high standards of data governance, privacy, and traceability,” said the authority.
Under this MoU, SMA said both parties commit to developing and deploying AI-based solutions for clinical and administrative support within Sarawak’s healthcare ecosystem; promoting knowledge transfer and capacity building to ensure healthcare professionals and policymakers are equipped to adopt AI technologies safely and effectively; and advancing health equity by expanding access to intelligent digital tools in rural and underserved communities.
SAIC chief executive officer Prof Patrick Then emphasised that this collaboration reflects Sarawak’s broader strategic direction.
“Sarawak is embarking on a game-changing journey by systematically leveraging artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies as key enablers of sustainable economic growth and digital excellence.
“Our focus is on building a robust, innovation driven AI ecosystem that delivers measurable value across public services and industries, including healthcare,” he said.
Llamalítica chief executive officer Dr Frederic Llordachs stated: “Artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly transform healthcare by providing intelligent support to clinicians and enabling more personalised, efficient and sustainable care.”
SMA added that the signing of the MoU represents a concrete step towards demonstrating how AI can serve as a catalyst for real-world impact, strengthening healthcare systems, improving quality of life, and enabling more inclusive access to high-quality medical services across diverse communities.
