The three suspects aged between 24 and 30 years were detained in a three-day operation by the Task Force of the Regional Police Headquarters (IPD) Meradong team through Special Tapis Ops of Sarawak's JSJN.

Meradong District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Tansli Mering, said the urine filter found all suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

"All suspects were taken to the Meradong IPD for further action, while a review found they had no prior criminal or drug record", he said in a statement today.

The case was investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years if convicted.

In the same operation, police also detained four local men in connection with previous drug offences before they were brought to Sarikei Magistrate Court.

"The court imposed a fine of RM4,000 or four months in jail and two years' supervision on each accused.

"They all had to serve prison sentences after failing to pay the fine", he said.
