KUCHING: Speculation about the purported Dubai move to topple the unity government is a waste of time, says Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said Sarawak had no time for such talk as the state was focusing on its economy and increasing its revenue.
"I don't know what's next - the Monaco move or London move?
"Those speculating about this and that move have nothing better to do.
"For Sarawak, we just concentrate (on our development)," he told reporters after a walkabout on Monday (Jan 1) at the new Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here, where the country's tallest flagpole was located.
The so-called Dubai move was an alleged plot hatched by Opposition party leaders and government backbenchers in the United Arab Emirates to bring down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his government.
It was also claimed that the position of prime minister would be offered to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the backbone party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Dismissing the claim, Abang Johari said he was surprised to see his name linked with the Dubai move.
"Apparently they want to offer me the prime minister's position.
"Look at us, we wear the shirt that is measured on our own body," he said, referring to a Malay proverb meaning doing the job suitable to one's ability.
Abang Johari also said it was important for the Malaysian government to be stable.
He said the people would suffer if there were no investments and shrinking job opportunities due to instability.
"Leaders should not be fighting for position," he added.
