KUCHING (Dec 2): The Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) will hold its annual Charity Christmas Bazaar 2025 on Sunday, featuring festive treats, local delicacies and handmade crafts in support of animal welfare programmes.

The event will take place from 10am to 2pm at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Dewan Masyarakat Jalan Padungan New Wing and will be officiated by Deputy Premier and Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

In a statement, SSPCA said Dr Sim’s attendance underscores the state’s commitment to public health, responsible pet ownership and ongoing efforts to strengthen rabies prevention.

Visitors can browse Christmas cookies and cakes, homemade crafts and quality merchandise from participating vendors, with proceeds channelled to SSPCA’s shelter operations and outreach work.

A key highlight this year is the opening of registration for PetWalk 2.0, scheduled for 2026.

Free rabies vaccinations for dogs will also be available through the MBKS Vaccination Campaign with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) in February next year.

To encourage adoption, SSPCA will showcase cats and dogs in need of permanent homes.

SSPCA president Datin Sri Dona Drury Wee said the annual bazaar continues to serve as a meaningful platform to promote rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership while uniting the community for a good cause.

“Beyond fundraising, it is a platform to remind the public about rabies awareness, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of keeping our communities safe.

“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the season while supporting a cause that protects both animals and people.”

The bazaar also aims to educate the public on the importance of timely vaccination, annual boosters and safer interactions between pets and the community.

Families, animal lovers and members of the public are encouraged to attend, support shelter animals and participate in awareness initiatives. Admission is free.
