KOTA KINABALU (Feb 11): The success of Norcy Beauty Lab should serve as an inspiration for Sabah entrepreneurs to be bold in expanding their businesses and competing at the national level, said Datuk Ewon Benedick.
The Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (Mindet) said Norcy Beauty Lab products are no longer confined to the Sabah market, having successfully penetrated Peninsular Malaysia and Brunei.
The company currently employs up to 15 workers and has recorded nearly RM10 million in revenue.
“When I was at the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, through SME Corp last year, I approved and presented a grant to support the expansion of her business.
“I am proud to see Norcy’s journey, which began on a small scale at the Matunggong Entrepreneurship Centre that I officiated during my tenure as Sabah Rural Development Minister, grow into a larger enterprise with its own bigger factory in Matunggong and an OEM factory in Nilai.
“This is the spirit of Sabah First, not only striving on home ground, but also daring to compete and expand beyond Sabah,” he said after visiting the beauty product manufacturing factory owned by Sabahan entrepreneur Norsiah Ahiddin in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
He also expressed appreciation for the invitation by Norsiah to launch the company’s new factory and promised his ministry would channel appropriate support to facilitate the company’s business expansion.
According to Ewon, Norsiah’s success story aligns closely with the Sabah First Vision championed by the ministry, which aims to create more income-earning Sabahans, either as business owners or as employees within enterprises owned by fellow Sabahans.
“Through this vision, I am placing strong emphasis on improving the standards and quality of products and services by Sabahan entrepreneurs. Therefore, Mindet will ensure that suitable support is provided to help Norcy further expand her enterprise,” he said.
