MIRI (Feb 15): As the Year of the Horse approaches, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has highlighted the state government’s extensive initiatives aimed at supporting citizens at every stage of life, as part of its continued efforts to improve the livelihoods of Sarawakians.

He said these initiatives range from maternal and newborn allowances to healthcare benefits for senior citizens, the Sarawak Basic Assistance Scheme (SKAS), and free university education for students in designated courses at Sarawak government-owned universities.

“The schemes and programmes demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that Sarawakians can live, study, and work with confidence, while preparing the younger generation for the state’s future,” he said in a Chinese New Year message.

Lee also emphasised achievements in transport and infrastructure, including the successful implementation of Miri’s free bus service, the ongoing Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, and the upcoming hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rail Transit (ART), which clearly show the state government’s dedication to green and smart mobility.

Beyond development initiatives, the Senadin assemblyman reaffirmed the importance of Sarawak’s multicultural harmony.

“People of all ethnicities and religions celebrate festivals such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, Deepavali and Christmas together, which are the epitome of the state’s inclusive spirit.”

He also praised the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, noting that political stability, social inclusiveness and a business-friendly environment have enabled Sarawakians to thrive, making the state a model admired by others.

He urged those travelling during the festive season to do so safely and to return home safely.

“The Year of the Horse symbolises strength, perseverance, and forward momentum, and lets give our best in our respective roles, working together to contribute to Sarawak’s development and join hands in realising the vision of prosperity and progress by 2030,” he concluded.
