MIRI (Nov 3): Unity and dedication among members of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) are crucial to ensure a stable and prosperous future for Sarawak and the nation as a whole.

SUPP Piasau chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting said being the oldest political party, SUPP holds a legacy of shaping the country’s history, and its continued growth depends on its ability to stay united.

“Under the leadership of Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the party has seen transformative growth in recent years, expanding its parliamentary representation and placing young leaders in local government positions to drive change,” he said when officiating at the SUPP Piasau Branch Party Members’ Representative Conference yesterday at the branch office.

“As a member of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), SUPP is committed to navigating Malaysia’s increasingly complex political landscape. It is, thus, important for SUPP members to stay united as a cohesive family to protect Sarawak’s interest and support the Unity Government, while also fostering stability and investors’ confidence,” he added.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I also urges that the younger generation be given the opportunity to create breakthroughs in local government policies, as the challenges ahead will be more prevalent and severe.

“The younger generation is leading the future of the party.

“We must continue to love our party and protect Sarawak while prioritising the interest of the party and Sarawak, since we can only fight for our rightful interests by uniting everyone here,” he added.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to fellow comrades, especially to the executive members, who had fought alongside him for over 10 years.

They include Councillor Karambir Singh, Tong Shih Yee, Penghulu Betty Pong, and Penghulu Yong Kah Seng, as well as those who are no longer with them.

“We have served the people at the grassroots level, fought election battles, faced attacks from political enemies, and dealt with changes in the political landscape. We have advanced and retreated together without backing down, therefore I am thankful for them,” he said.

Ting unanimously remained as the branch chairman and is assisted by deputy chairman Philip Tho, as well as his vice-chairmen Richard Wong, Joseph Chai Chuan Kui, Daniel Along, and Joseph Leng Tak Shing.
