KUCHING, May 10: A total of 236 dogs were vaccinated against rabies in a single day as Kuching South City Council (MBKS) intensified efforts to strengthen rabies prevention and promote responsible pet ownership through a mass vaccination and licensing programme at Mayor Song Swee Guan Park, Tabuan Jaya yesterday (May 9).
The programme, jointly organised with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), and the Sarawak Veterinary Association (SVA), drew strong response from pet owners across Kuching South.
Held from 8.30am to 4.30pm, the campaign saw participation from 152 dog owners, with 56 dogs receiving their first anti-rabies vaccination while another 180 received booster shots.

Meanwhile, the subsidised neutering initiative conducted together with SSPCA and SVA received 27 applications from pet owners seeking affordable neutering services for their pets.
Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said continued public participation is crucial in ensuring rabies prevention efforts remain effective.
He also reminded pet owners to vaccinate and license their dogs annually, microchip their pets, and practise responsible pet ownership to help create a safer environment for both the community and animals. — DayakDaily
