KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has proposed that a more structured engagement mechanism be established between the authorities and religious bodies at the national level.
He said the proposal would be raised and discussed with the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, tomorrow.
“This approach is crucial to ensuring every issue can be addressed inclusively, minimising misunderstanding and assuring national harmony,” he said after a meeting with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST).
The meeting discussed various current issues, including matters related to non-Islamic houses of worship.
Aaron said that during the meeting, the MCCBCHST also emphasised that it fully upholds the country’s existing legal framework.
“They, however, requested that enforcement be carried out in a more prudent, consultative and sensitive manner, particularly before any action is taken by the local authorities,” he said. – Bernama
