KUCHING, June 12: The Stutong Community Market has been recognised under the Compliant Market (3P for Patuh, Piawai, Pasti or Compliant, Standardised, Assured) programme, with traders receiving official stickers to promote compliance and ethical trading.

The handover was carried out during a joint visit by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Deputy Director-General of Enforcement and Prevention, Aris Mamat.

Aris expressed satisfaction during the visit with the high level of compliance at the Stutong Community Market, saying that all traders had complied with the required regulations.

“I believe the objectives of the 3P programme can be achieved if all markets comply with business regulations, as demonstrated by the Stutong Community Market,” he said in a press statement today.

The Stutong Community Market is among the selected markets under the programme, an initiative by KPDN to promote integrity, transparency and compliance in business operations.

The programme was launched on October 29, 2025, initially involving one public market in each state before being expanded in phases to major districts nationwide.

Under the initiative, public markets are encouraged to adopt proper price labelling, verified weighing and measuring equipment, and ethical trading practices, while also complying with consumer protection and price control laws.

The programme also aims to foster clean, orderly and trusted market environments, as well as reduce offences related to pricing, weighing and unethical trading conduct.

KPDN said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen self-regulation among traders to ensure long-term compliance with trade laws, and urged the public to play a role as “eyes and ears” in reporting any misconduct by traders or distributors.

Complaints can be channelled via WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, email at e-[email protected], the call centre at 1-800-886-800, or the Ez ADU KPDN mobile application. — DayakDaily
