KOTA KINABALU (Jan 16): Pantai Manis assemblyman Datuk Pengiran Saifuddin Pengiran Tahir Petra is now the chairman of Sabah Urban Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SUDC).

In his speech, Pengiran Saifuddin said in accepting the appointment, he would strive to ensure that the subsidiary of Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) would continue playing its role in Sabah’s economic development.

SUDC is a state-government linked company (GLC).

“This subsidiary has long carried out its responsibilities in planning and implementing various property development projects, in addition to helping stimulate Sabah’s economic growth.

“With this appointment, I will ensure that this subsidiary continues to fulfil its function as the state government’s principal property developer.

“I would also like to express my highest appreciation to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, for the trust placed in me to lead this subsidiary,” said Pengiran Saifuddin in a media statement.

The recent ceremony saw former chairman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar – now the state Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister – officially handing over the duties to Pengiran Saifuddin.

Established in 1972, SUDC – formerly known as Milek Perkara – serves to advance property development, particularly for the local Bumiputera entrepreneurial community.

The entity was renamed as SUDC on Aug 25, 1984.
