KUCHING (Feb 11): A total of 12,000 packed meals are being prepared under the Sumbangsih Perayaan Tahun 2026 initiative for enforcement personnel and uniformed bodies on duty during the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.

Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the packed meals are also allocated for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak, marking a significant increase in contributions this year.

“What is different this year is that the three celebrations fall very close to one another, so the packing of the contributions has been carried out simultaneously since December last year, bringing the total to three times the usual amount,” she told the reporters after officiating the programme at Wisma Wanita here.

Fatimah highlighted that the initiative also reflects the state government’s policy emphasis on social inclusivity under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Anyone on duty during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak from the designated enforcement agencies and uniformed bodies are given the opportunity to receive this contribution,” she said.

The minister also noted improvements in the food provided to recipients, following feedback from previous years.

“We include retort food among the items, which can simply be heated with warm water. They can then enjoy a filling meal complete with rice and meat,” she said.

Fatimah added that the packed meals are a gesture of appreciation for those working to ensure public safety and order during festive seasons.

“This is a gesture of thanks from the government to those who are on duty during the festive period for their sacrifices. While others are celebrating, they are working and carrying out their responsibilities.

“We hope our state will continue to remain peaceful and safe so that we can celebrate our respective festivals in harmony,” Fatimah added.

A symbolic handover ceremony will be taking place on Feb 12 at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, where the Premier will present the contributions to heads of the respective agencies.

Today, representatives from 11 agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Malaysian Prisons Department, Road Transport Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Malaysia Immigration Department, People’s Volunteer Corps and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, came together to pack 4,000 food items.
