KUCHING (Jan 17): The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has lodged a police report against the Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Sarawak over the alleged abuse of legal and enforcement mechanisms for political purposes, in connection with a 1MDB-related issue dating back to 2020.
The report was lodged on Saturday by SUPP Central Working Committee member and political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Kua Jack Seng, under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
Section 182 criminalises giving false information, whether written or oral, to a public servant, in this case a police officer, with the intent of causing them to misuse their power to the injury or annoyance of another person.
Kua said the police report by SUPP was made following an earlier report lodged by Dapsy, which urged the police to immediately investigate SUPP’s alleged receipt of RM1 million from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
In August 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) civil forfeiture application involving RM188,138.26 and ordered the funds to be returned to SUPP after the commission failed to prove any link between the money and 1MDB.
“By lodging that report, they (Dapsy) are effectively disregarding what has already been finalised by our (Malaysia) High Court,” said Kua when met at Satok Police Station, Jalan Nagor after lodging the report on Saturday.
Furthermore, SUPP views Dapsy’s deliberate reignition of the issue as a violation of the principle of res judicata (a matter already judged).
In addition, SUPP considers Dapsy’s report to be a form of political retaliation, noting that it was made shortly after a Kuching High Court ruling last December in favour of Deputy Premier and SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, which awarded him RM500,000 in damages.
Kua was accompanied by SUPP women’s chief Kho Teck Wan and SUPP deputy youth chief Angellie Stephen Raja, both political secretaries to the Sarawak Premier, as well as SUPP Batu Lintang youth chief John Wong and SUPP Pending branch youth member Russell Lim.
Previously, Dapsy Sarawak issued a statement asserting that SUPP’s receipt of RM1 million from a court-convicted former prime minister “cannot and should not be casually dismissed as a mere political donation”.
They demanded answers regarding the source of the RM1 million, whether it was linked to 1MDB or other public funds, and whether it was derived from abuse of power, money laundering, or other illegal activities.
