KUCHING, March 11: The irresistible aroma of durian filled the air at Kubah Ria as the Islamic Welfare Body (BAKIS) distributed 600 packs of bubur durian and bubur pulut hitam, bringing festive joy to visitors at the Ramadan bazaar.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the initiative is part of BAKIS’ annual Ramadan programme.
“We are here at the Kubah Ria Ramadan Bazaar to distribute 600 packs of bubur pulut hitam and bubur durian to visitors.
“This is more than sharing food; it is about celebrating Ramadan together and supporting the welfare of Muslim officers in the Department of Agriculture,” he told reporters today.
He highlighted BAKIS’ continued efforts in community welfare, including Hari Raya Korban and other programmes throughout the year.
Abdul Rahman also shared the ministry’s broader vision. “We aim to become a net exporter of food products and raise citizens’ incomes to at least RM15,000 per month by 2030. It’s an ambitious goal, but with the commitment of our officers and support from the ministry, InsyaAllah, it is achievable. We must work together and stay focused on our targets.”
He further explained BAKIS’ welfare initiatives, which provide aid to newborns, mothers, the elderly, dialysis patients, and other vulnerable groups.
He noted the recently expanded Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) programme, benefiting households, senior citizens, and singles in three phases each year.
“Therefore, we, the people of Sarawak, should be grateful and proud to have leaders who are caring, wise, and forward-looking. We must fully support the Premier in steering Sarawak not only towards 2030 but beyond,” he added. — DayakDaily
