BINTULU (Feb 12): Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and avoid driving while fatigued as traffic volume increases during the festive season.
Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang reminded road users that with many families travelling back to their hometowns, safety should remain the foremost priority.
“Do not drive when you are tired. If you feel fatigued, stop and take a rest. Your loved ones are waiting for you to arrive home safely,” he said.
He stressed that a safe journey and safe arrival are among the greatest blessings during festive celebrations.
Pang made these remarks during a visit to the Bintulu Health Office on Wednesday, where he and his team distributed mandarin oranges and dates to frontline healthcare workers in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year and Ramadan.
Describing the annual gesture as a longstanding personal tradition, he said it was a sincere token of appreciation for the commitment and sacrifices of frontline personnel who continue to serve the community diligently throughout the year.
“Mandarin oranges symbolise prosperity and good fortune, while dates carry special meaning during Ramadan as the traditional food to break fast, signifying blessings and compassion,” he added.
Pang also highlighted that Sarawak’s strength lies in its spirit of mutual respect and harmony among its diverse communities.
“During each festive season, we exchange greetings and foster understanding. That is our most valuable spirit,” he said.
