BAU: “You are part of the government, not the opposition. Meet the authorities directly about any issues and resolve them together,” urged Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

This statement was made in response to recent remarks by Mas Gading MP, Mordi Bimol, who called on the Bau District Council (MDB) to address frequent flooding caused by an ongoing construction project along Jalan Jambusan.

Henry, who is the Tasik Biru assemblyman, assured that the implementing agency is actively working on completing the project, saying that efforts are underway to improve the drainage system to address the water overflow onto the road.

“There’s significant water runoff from the project site. The Public Works Department (JKR) and the developer have constructed drainage all the way to channel the water out. That has been completed, and it can be inspected soon.

“Previously, water would overflow from the area, but now we have built a large drainage channel that is more than sufficient. It won’t overflow anymore.

“Mordi is also part of the government. He has his own allocation, so he should solve the problem. Like me, I meet with local residents, and they communicate with me directly,” he said.

He told reporters this after officiating the presentation of Certificates of Recognition as Sarawak Natives at the Bau District Office, Friday (Sept 13).

Recently, Mordi had expressed concerns about the unidentified developer and the lack of details surrounding the construction project, which has been causing multiple issues for the local community.

He pointed out that the project has not only caused severe water overflow but also led to frequent flooding, with dirty and foul-smelling water and mud affecting the area.

“This issue poses a serious threat to the health and safety of residents and road users. For several months, dirty water has flooded the roads, worsening during the rainy season.

“The situation has caused significant discomfort, inconvenience, and health risks for the local community and those using the roads,” Mordi stated.

In response to Mordi’s remarks, Henry clarified that this issue is not new and that he has personally made several visits to monitor the project’s progress.

“The council and JKR have done a lot. I have also called the developer. Action has already been taken,” he stressed.
