TATAU (March 19): Road users have been urged to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to reduce accidents during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
Tatau District police chief DSP Jame Reis said increased traffic volume during the festive period raises the risk of road incidents if safety measures are not observed.
“Key offences that must be avoided include speeding, using mobile phones while driving, driving against traffic flow and parking on road shoulders,” Jame highlighted in his address at a road safety campaign held at KM1 Jalan Tatau–Sibu.
He also emphasised the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, describing them as essential measures to minimise the risk of serious injuries in the event of an accident.
Jame further advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling and to avoid driving while fatigued, particularly during long-distance journeys.
The event was officiated by the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Pandang Semat.
Among those present were Bintulu Road Transport Department branch head Fredrick Kedo, Pemanca Gerosen Jubin, as well as representatives from the Tatau District Office and the Bintulu Resident’s Office.
