KUCHING (Jan 18): A total of eight foreign nationals and two Malaysian citizens were arrested during the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sarawak’s ‘Ops Serkap’ operation, conducted along the Sri Aman–Sarikei stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway on Saturday.
During the operation, which took place from 5:05am to 5:45am, a total of 38 individuals were inspected, comprising 36 foreign nationals and two Malaysian citizens.
According to the department, the inspections involved 22 foreign men and 14 foreign women, as well as two Malaysian men, with a focus on compliance with entry requirements and their presence in the country.
“The subsequent inspections led to the arrest of 10 individuals, comprising five foreign men, three foreign women, and two Malaysian citizens,” the department stated in a Facebook post.
Furthermore, a bus and cash amounting to RM7,280, were seized for investigative purposes.
The arrested individuals are suspected of offences under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966, as well as Sections 15(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“The Malaysian Immigration Department Sarawak will continue to strengthen enforcement operations on an ongoing basis to ensure public safety, maintain public order, and ensure compliance with the country’s immigration laws,” the post read.
