KOTA KINABALU (March 19): The Tanjung Keramat Cahaya Aidilfitri competition in Putatan near here rewarded winners with cash prizes totalling RM6,600.
Divided into ‘Lampu Pelita Susul’ (oil lamps) and ‘Lampu Berhias’ (decorative lighting) categories, the competition attracted 45 participants from seven villages around Tanjung Keramat.
“Initially, we targeted around 30 participants but the response exceeded expectations with 45 entries,” Putatan MP Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said in a statement after the prize-giving ceremony at Kampung Pituru, Taman Pantai Lok Kawi on Wednesday.
“God willing, the programme will continue in the future and will be improved over time.”
Mazlan Mayut from Kampung Pituru won the susul category to receive RM1,500 and a hamper.
In second place was Mohd Khairi Abd Latip from Kampung Pasir Putih (RM1,000 and a hamper), while Muhammad Annas Mahadzir from Kampung Lembising came in third (RM800 and a hamper).
In the decorative lighting category, the top prize of RM1,500 and a hamper went to Baijuri Deris from Kampung Muhibbah, while Kampung Contoh neighbours Shahrizal Azman and Rina M Abdullah came in second and third to receive RM1,000 with a hamper and RM800 with a hamper respectively.
The Tanjung Keramat Cahaya Aidilfitri involved Kampung Lembising, Kampung Muhibbah, Kampung Contoh, Kampung Meruntum, Kampung Pituru, Kampung Pasir Putih, and Kampung Sri Pandan.
It took place from March 10-18.
