KUCHING (Dec 21): Miri-based The Borneo Post senior journalist Jenifer Laeng bagged her second Sarawak Premier Award at this year’s edition of Kenyalang Journalism Awards on Saturday night.
Her work, ‘A Light in The Dark: Need for Palliative Care Surges Amid Challenges, Resource Gaps’, was recognised for highlighting the growing demand for palliative care in an ageing population, further hampered by limited resources and awareness
The Sarawak Premier Award was presented to her by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
She also clinched gold award in the Press Metal Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature).
Business Desk journalist James Wong took home gold for the Shell Business and Economic Journalism Award and Sarawak Premier Digital Economy Journalism Award, while Rachel Lau won silver in the Shell Business and Economic Journalism Award.

Aside from Jenifer, See Hua Daily News’ Tan Siok Thin also brought home the coveted Sarawak Premier Award, as well as gold for the Press Metal Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature) and the Sarawak Energy Sustainability Journalism Award.
Utusan Borneo’s Frankie Junau and Rengeyan Labang won gold in the Shell Business and Economic Journalism Award and the Petronas Community Well-Being And Rural Development Journalism Award respectively.
For the Sports Reporting Award, See Hua Daily News’ Yew Wang Ting clinched gold for her work ‘Sarawak’s Rise in Wushu’.

Other award recipients from See Hua Daily News include Jong Zit Hua (bronze, Press Metal Journalism Award – Feature and News Feature, Petronas Community Well-Being and Rural Development Journalism), Teo Yee Sing and Voon Siang Pin (silver – Bintulu Port News Reporting Award); Teo, Jasmine Chin, Chong Kho Lee and Kong Jun Liung (silver, Sarawak Energy Sustainability Journalism Award); and Lo Kiun Sin (bronze – Sarawak Premier Digital Economy Journalism).
Meanwhile, veteran journalist KC Jong was honoured with the Journalism Icon Award for his decades of dedication to the profession.
The Kenyalang Journalism Awards this year drew 435 entries spanning 10 categories and four language sections – English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Iban.
Among those present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963 and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Kuching Division Journalists’ Association (KDJA) president Ronnie Teo.
