KUCHING, March 5: About 1,500 youths and families are expected to gather at the Asajaya Sports Complex on March 7 for Lan Berambeh Sungkey Youth Asajaya 2026, marking the district’s first large-scale iftar event this Ramadan.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the programme aims to encourage active youth participation in voluntary activities while enlivening Ramadan through spiritual and community-focused initiatives.

“Highlights of the programme include contributions to vulnerable people, the distribution of bubur lambuk, Quran recitations in conjunction with Nuzul al-Quran, Islamic talks, and performances by local buskers,” he said during a press conference at BaitulMakmur II in Petra Jaya today.

The event also seeks to instill leadership, social responsibility, and a spirit of togetherness among youths from diverse backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the return of Jum Berambeh Sungkei Kuching 2026 will take place on March 14 at Padang Merdeka, drawing an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 participants.

The event will feature a special performance by Rabbani, busking by Intan, and a guest talk by Ustaz Mohamad Raufa Abdul Raub.

Attendees can look forward to performances, the distribution of bubur lambuk, youth creative competitions, Islamic art exhibitions, glamping experiences, the lighting of oil lamps, youth Islamic art activities, and a lucky draw session.

Abdul Karim noted that both events will begin at 2.30pm, and members of the public are encouraged to contribute food. Tables will be provided for donors to place their dishes for sharing.

“The fasting month is a time to share meals. At home, I usually set aside food to give to my neighbours. In the same spirit, this programme encourages those who can give to share with others. Such acts of generosity are highly encouraged in Islam, especially in providing for those who are fasting,” he added.

He also invited the public to bring potluck dishes, picnic mats, and their own mats or cloths to enjoy the events together. — DayakDaily
