MIRI (March 19): School leavers who have completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination here are encouraged to participate in a special education programme designed to provide guidance on higher education pathways and help them make informed decisions about their future.

The Information and Application Day initiative organised by Ling Family Higher Education Fund in collaboration with L&P Consultant Services, will be held over three days from April 3 to 5 at Imperial Hotel, Level 5.

According to the manager of Ling Family Higher Education Fund, Alan Ling, the programme targets students who will be receiving their SPM results on March 31, with the aim of offering early exposure to the wide range of study options available.

“The programme aims to help students and parents obtain accurate information on opportunities to pursue higher education, including foundation and diploma pathways offered by local universities,” he said in a statement.

Ling added that participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with representatives from higher education institutions to gain insights into entry requirements, duration of study and career prospects upon graduation.

The programme will also provide early information on the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), which involves four state-owned universities.

Ling expressed hope that the initiative would assist students in planning their educational pathways more clearly, while also raising awareness of the various assistance schemes and opportunities available.

“Parents are also encouraged to attend with their children to obtain first-hand information from the organisers and university representatives,” he added.

The programme is expected to attract participation from students in Miri and surrounding areas who are planning their next steps after completing secondary school.
