Firefighters extricating the victims using rescue equipment.
KOTA KINABALU (Jan 25): Three men were injured after a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine along KM13 Jalan SMK Segama in Lahad Datu on Saturday.
A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 1.02 am, and a nine-member rescue team was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 1.12am.
The location was about 13 kilometres from the station.
“The vehicle had gone out of control before falling into a ravine estimated to be about 20 feet deep,” he said in a statement.
“All three victims were trapped inside the vehicle and were successfully extricated by the fire and rescue team using road traffic accident rescue equipment.”
The victims, all males, sustained injuries.
One of them is a 33-year-old man, while the ages of the other two were not immediately available.
The injured victims were then brought up to the roadside using ropes and a stretcher before being handed over to the health personnel for further treatment at the hospital.
The situation was brought under control, and the operation oncluded at 2.17am after firefighters ensured there were no further hazards at the scene.
