KUCHING: The Majlis Datuk Dato’ Malaysia (MDDM) has proposed amendments to the 2017 Titles and Awards Act (Act 787) to strengthen its enforcement and curb the misuse of titles and awards.

During a courtesy call to the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, yesterday (Sept 23), the MDDM delegation, led by President Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz, said the amendments are to prevent the proliferation of counterfeit and unrecognised titles.

The MDDM also extended an invitation to Wan Junaidi for their Charity Black-Tie Dinner on Nov 15 in Kuala Lumpur.

Other MDDM officials present were Vice President and Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee Datuk Seri Lawrence Yeo Chua Poh, Secretary-General Datuk Samson David Maman, former Vice President Datuk Seri Mohd Amim Abdul Wahab, Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Harridz Mohan, and Executive Council members Datuk Seri East Jong Full, Datuk Joy Wilson Appukuttan, and Datuk Seri Lau Kueng Chai.

Following the meeting, Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, welcomed a courtesy call from a delegation of the Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM), led by its chairman Datuk Wira Dr Rosli Mat Hassan.

UKKM, Malaysia’s first cooperative university, was an initiative sparked by Wan Junaidi during his tenure as Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives. The delegation sought Wan Junaidi’s insights on how UKKM could contribute to the growth of the cooperative and entrepreneurial sectors.

Accompanying the UKKM delegation were Deputy Chairman Tuan Felix Joseph Saang; UKKM Managing Director and Director-General of the Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (IKMa), Datuk Mohd Ali Mansor; Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin; UKKM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Azali Mohamed; and UKKM Board Members Datuk Bastien Onn and Ahmed Zaharani Yusof Omar.
