KUCHING, Mar 6: German adventure tour operator, Diamir Erlebnisreisen GmbH, has noted that Borneo’s ecological attractions hold strong appeal in the German market, and plans to intensify the promotion of Malaysia through its network of travel agencies and media channels to raise the country’s profile in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
According to Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, this followed a meeting with the company’s managing director, Jörg Ehrlich, and product manager, Kathleen Wagner, at ITB Berlin in Germany on Wednesday (Mar 4).
“Diamir is a well-known nature-based tour operator in Germany, specialising in immersive travel experiences to destinations around the world.
“Ehrlich shared that he spent two weeks in Malaysia last year exploring Borneo’s natural ecosystems, including Kota Kinabalu and the Kinabatangan River area, where he experienced the unique wildlife and rainforest of the region. He noted that such ecological attractions hold strong appeal in the German market.
“Currently, the company has developed 16 travel packages related to Malaysia, in collaboration with several selected hotels as part of its product network.
“Diamir also plans to intensify the promotion of Malaysia through its network of travel agencies and media channels to raise the country’s profile in Germany, Austria and Switzerland,” said Tiong in a Facebook post today.
Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman and Bintulu MP, emphasised that in addition to its rich cultural heritage, Malaysia possesses unique natural assets which include orangutan conservation experiences in Sabah and Sandakan, as well as plans to introduce more jungle adventure and eco-adventure tourism products in the future to attract younger travellers and the adventure tourism market.
“I hope this collaboration can continue to be strengthened through closer exchanges and promotional efforts in the future, so that more European tourists will come to discover Malaysia’s natural beauty and cultural diversity,” he said. — DayakDaily
