KUCHING, Dec 25: Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Dato Seri Tiong King Sing hopes that Sarawak can set an example for other states of citizens of diverse ethnicities and religions having a high level of tolerance and unity sharing joy in every festive occasion.
In his Christmas Day message uploaded on his Facebook page today, he said Malaysia may lack snow and wintry landscapes but it has the unique privilege of celebrating the festive season with the warmth of a perpetual summer and the peaceful symphony woven by different cultures and customs.
“This further illustrates that in Malaysia’s vibrant array of festivals, as long as they convey positive meanings, each one is a day for all of us to celebrate together.
“People of various ethnicities can share joy on every festive occasion, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds of friendship.
“We hope that Sarawak can be an example, spreading this beauty throughout the nation,” he said.
Tiong further expressed regret over some politicians who continue to disrupt the social fabric of Malaysia for personal gain.
He said this is the worst of times as some attempted to cast a shadow over the Christmas season, interpreting and imposing rules that ban employees from writing ‘Merry Christmas’ on cakes for instance, causing bewilderment, incredulity and unease.
At the same time however, he said it is also the best of times as the government has made highways toll-free during Christmas, a reassuring gesture symbolising a united government and a flourishing Malaysia embracing diversity.
“Let us celebrate and preserve Malaysia’s racial and religious diversity using the golden rule of each faith, promoting the flourishing of cultures like decorations on a Christmas tree, radiating the light of hope.
“Wishing all my fellow Malaysians a merry Christmas, season’s greetings and joyous peace,” he concluded. — DayakDaily
