MIRI (Aug 12): Tusan Beach in Sibuti is ready to welcome visitors again with the completion of the Tusan Beach Tourism Facility Development Project, which includes water and electricity supply.

Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I (Women and Childhood Development) Datuk Rosey Yunus said the state Cabinet had on June 22, 2017 approved RM5 million for the project and an additional RM1 million to cover the cost of land compensation and survey.

The site was handed over to the appointed contractor in February 2019 and scheduled to be completed within a year.

“However, several extensions were necessary due to issues such as land compensation, unfavourable weather conditions, the Covid-19 situation beginning March 2020, the collapse of the ‘Drinking Horse’ natural rock formation, and adjustments to the building plan due to the erosion,” Rosey said during the launching yesterday.

Due to these setbacks, the project was only certified as complete in April 2021.

She said the Subis District Council then applied for an additional RM700,000 under the 12th Malaysia Plan to connect water and electricity supply.

“Visitors can now relax and enjoy the diversity of the food here as traders who have been interviewed and selected have started to enter the building stall lots and done business since June 25 this year,” she said.

She said hawkers under the Tusan Beach Community Committee chaired by Mansor Antin played a crucial role in helping the Subis District Council to attract visitors to this recreational spot, which would help boost the incomes of locals in the area.

Rosey promised the Sarawak government will continue to help meet the needs of the tourism industry and aspirations of the local community.

The new facilities include a food court with an observation tower, footpaths, three gazebos, outdoor shower, public toilets, and landscaped area.
