SANDAKAN (Jan 10): Students of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions should strive to equip themselves to become a part of the highly-skilled human capital in supporting the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) plan.
In pointing this out, Sungai Manila assemblyman Hazeem Mubarak Musa said the transformation from a student to a competent graduate stood as a key factor in meeting the increasingly challenging demands of modern industries.
“Human capital development is the most important investment for the future of the state.
“We want to produce Sabahan youths who not only possess academic qualifications, but are also highly-skilled, and able to compete at the global level,” he said, quoting the message of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.
Hazeem officiated at the ‘Minggu Transformasi Siswa’ at Politeknik Sandakan Sabah here on Friday.
On the polytechnic, he hailed its strategic role as a ‘factory’ producing young technocrats who would help drive the economy, particularly in the Sandakan area.
According to him, the employability of TVET graduates has now become a priority for employers, surpassing reliance on theoretical qualifications alone.
“You are the ‘engine’ of our economic transformation.
“Do not merely wait for opportunities, but create them through innovation and the skills that you acquire here,” he added.
At the event, 144 new students officially commenced their studies at Politeknik Sandakan Sabah.
