SIBU (March 26): Two separate bush fire incidents reported in Sibu over the past few days have been brought under control, with no immediate threat to nearby residential areas.

According to Civil Defence Force (APM) Sibu district officer Mej (PA) Mohd Reduan Aini, monitoring carried out at the first location behind the Ngu Chung Beng Driving Institute along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman showed that the fire situation had improved significantly.

“The third-day inspection found that the fire was no longer as intense as on the first and second days.

“A drone was deployed for aerial monitoring and the situation is currently under control and not posing any danger,” he said in a statement.

The incident, which began on Monday, involved bush and peat areas, with a team of three APM personnel and two Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel deployed to the scene.

Mohd Reduan added that firefighters remain on standby to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.

In a separate case, another bush fire was reported along Jalan Utama Kemuyang earlier today.

The fire, believed to have started at around 5.30pm, involved dry grass and undergrowth and was successfully contained by firefighters with assistance from APM personnel.

“A total of three APM members and 16 firefighters were deployed to the scene.

“The fire has been brought under control and the situation at the location is stable,” Mohd Reduan said.

Both incidents are currently under close monitoring by the authorities.
