MIRI, April 17: Two crocodile cages have been installed at the RCJV Kuala Baram project site in Miri as a proactive measure to manage human–wildlife conflict in the area, particularly to enhance safety for workers and nearby communities.

In a post shared on its social media, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said the initiative was jointly carried out by Rimbun Prima Sdn Bhd (RPSB) and the Miri Port Authority as part of ongoing efforts to address increasing crocodile-related risks in the Kuala Baram area.

SFC director general Abang Arabi Abang Aimran said the installation of the cages is more than just an operational asset, but a practical solution that provides greater peace of mind to residents, especially fishermen who face daily risks from crocodile presence in local waterways.

“The measure reflects growing industry commitment to workplace safety, ensuring that construction personnel at the project site can carry out their duties without unnecessary fear or disruption,” he said.

Beyond safety considerations, Abang Arabi described the initiative as a strong example of collaborative development, demonstrating how economic activities and environmental conservation can progress hand in hand under the “Segulai Sejalai” spirit.

“SFC is not merely a regulator but a strategic partner that works closely with stakeholders using scientific approaches to ensure both community safety and wildlife conservation,” he added.

SFC also extended its appreciation to RPSB and the Miri Port Authority, expressing hope that the initiative will serve as a model for other industries in Sarawak to strengthen community welfare and environmental stewardship alongside development projects. — DayakDaily
