Two teens drown during swim at Papar campsite

PAPAR (March 31): A recreational swim at a riverside campsite here ended in tragedy when two teenagers drowned at Pokdi Campsite in Mandalipau here this morning.

Papar Fire and Rescue (Bomba) Station chief Asst Fire Supt Rozlan Osman said firefighters were dispatched to the location after receiving a distress call at 10.10am.

He said members of the public managed to pull both victims from the river before firefighters arrived at the scene.

“The victims were an 18-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl,” Rozlan said in a statement.

Firefighters later brought the bodies from the riverbank and handed them over to the police for further action.
