KUCHING (Dec 23): Holders of red late-registration birth certificates should ensure that key information is clearly and accurately stated, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, he said complete and accurate identification documents were crucial as they might serve as official references for the authorities when verifying one’s identity, including race.
“If the race is not stated, it needs to be updated as we do not know when the authorities may need to refer to the document whether you are Iban, Malay or otherwise.
“If such details are missing, it can cause complications similar to an issue I encountered a few months ago,” he told reporters after the ‘Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ and Bukit Saban mobile service counter programme at Rumah Rayong, Nanga Lop, Rimbas last Saturday.
In this regard, the Bukit Saban assemblyman advised holders of late-registration birth certificates to update their documents at the National Registration Department (JPN).
“The process is not complicated—JPN will issue you a new duplicate copy of your birth certificate with complete race information, and this will prevent any problems that might arise in the future.”
Also present were Betong MP Dato Dr Richard Rapu, Betong Division Resident’s Office representative Kato Dorsie, Betong district officer Laga Kueh, a political secretary to the Premier Roseline Mapong Sabai, Betong District Council secretary Lister Clement Guwie, Gerempung Tuai Rumah Rimas Ulu Debak chairman Lembang Liang and Tuai Rumah Rayong Layang.
