SARIKEI (Aug 9): The construction project of the Sibu-Tanjung Manis road, including the Batang Rajang Bridge in the Sarikei Division, is currently 92 per cent completed, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah, who is Sarawak Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said the project, costing RM321,377,700, is scheduled to be fully completed by March next year.
“Fully funded by the state government, the main objective of the construction project is to shorten the travel distance from Sarikei to Tanjung Manis from two and a half hours to 45 minutes.
“Additionally, the project aims to open up more land to foster commercial, agricultural, and tourism growth, serving as a platform to drive economic activities for Sarikei and Tanjung Manis,” he told reporters when met after a site visit here today.
Uggah added that the project is part of the state government’s efforts to streamline Sarawak’s coastal road network.
The Batang Rajang Bridge spans 1.4 kilometres, while Pasi Road to Tanjung Manis Road stretches 17 kilometres.
Among those present were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, Sarawak Public Works Department director Dr Cassidy Morris, and Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Permanent Secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yau.
