UMS hails KTS Group’s Henry Lau for longstanding contributions to forestry sustainability

KOTA KINABALU (Dec 1): KTS Group Managing Director Dato Henry Lau Lee Kong has made significant contributions to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and to the sustainability of the forestry sector in the state.

UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said Lau has been collaborating with the university for more than 20 years.

“He has assisted the forestry faculty with matters related to forest conservation. He has also supported our students in terms of industrial training.

“So his contributions in matters related to forestry are very commendable,” he said when met at the 27th Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Convocation Ceremony.

Therefore, he said, UMS greatly appreciates the efforts undertaken by Henry, particularly in matters related to forestry.

According to him, forest conservation is extremely important for future generations.

In addition, he said, Henry has also contributed awards for final-year projects of the Faculty of Tropical Forestry students.

Henry was also selected as the recipient of the Honorary Doctorate in Forestry in conjunction with the 27th Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Convocation Ceremony.

Meanwhile, first-class honours student of the Planter and Forester Programme, Erllyn Sipun, said she was grateful to KTS Group for selecting her to receive the Forestry Sustainability Awards 2025.

She said that the fieldwork and learning undertaken over four years had borne fruit.

“Although various challenges were faced, all of them were successfully overcome.

“In the end, I managed to achieve success and obtained first-class honours in the programme I studied,” she said.
