KOTA KINABALU (April 8): The Gamuda Scholarship Engagement 2026 was successfully held on April 1 at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

It was organised by the Engineering Student Society of UMS, with strong support from the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) UMS Student Chapter and Young Engineer Section (YES).

The session aimed to provide students with valuable insights into scholarship opportunities and career pathways within the engineering industry, particularly with Gamuda.

A total of 70 students from various engineering disciplines, including civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, oil and gas, and electrical and electronics engineering, participated in the programme.

The one-hour session commenced with a comprehensive scholarship briefing delivered by Joseph Majanil, an executive from Yayasan Gamuda, who provided detailed information regarding the Gamuda Scholarship, its eligibility criteria, benefits, and application process.

This was followed by an engaging sharing session by Anderson Sean Anderias, a Sustainability Engineer from Gamuda, who inspired students by sharing his professional journey and experiences within the company.

Notably, both speakers are proud alumni of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, which added a relatable and motivating dimension to the session for participating students.

The programme was further enriched by the presence of Vivian Tan, Assistant Manager of Talent Management & Organisational Development at Gamuda, who actively participated in the Q&A session.

Students were given the opportunity to ask insightful questions regarding scholarship applications, career development, and industry expectations, making the session highly interactive and beneficial.

Also present at the event were Ts Dr Nurul Shahadatul Afizah Binti Asman, IEM-YES Sabah graduate and student leader, and Dr Sheikh Iqbal S Zainal, senior lecturer in Civil Engineering, whose attendance reflected continuous support from both industry and academia in nurturing future engineers.

The success of the programme was made possible by the dedicated organising team, led by Izzat Aiman Mat Saidi from the Engineering Student Society of UMS, alongside Elson Alin Albert, representing the IEM UMS Student Chapter.

Their leadership and commitment, supported by the organising committee members, ensured the smooth execution of the event and created a meaningful experience for all the participants.
