BINTULU (Feb 24): The Sarawak government remains committed to strengthening unity and inclusivity through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
This was highlighted by Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom during a recent presentation of Unifor allocations to the recipients in Kemena state constituency.
The Kemena assemblyman described the occasion as ‘a meaningful reminder of Sarawak’s unique strength in diversity’.
“Seeing the grateful faces of the church leaders and the congregants in Kemena reminds me of why Sarawak is so special in the eyes of the world,” said Dr Rundi.
“In Sarawak, differences are not there to divide, but to serve as a bridge that binds communities together.
“Through Unifor, the Sarawak government does more than channel financial aid, as it also reinforces the foundation of unity among its multiracial and multi-religious society,” added the state minister.
Dr Rundi then hailed Unifor as not only the sole institution of its kind in Malaysia, but also as an agency out to ensure true inclusivity by enabling followers of other religions to have safe and comfortable places of worship, support mission schools to provide quality education in a harmonious environment, and uphold social justice by ensuring that no community would be left behind in the state’s development agenda in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“This Unifor grants’ presentation for Kemena is proof of our continued commitment.
“When we help repair churches or support religious activities, we are in fact investing in long-term stability,” he said.
“Unifor symbolises that under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), every Sarawakian, regardless of race or religion, has the right and space to prosper,” added Dr Rundi.
