KOTA KINABALU (March 19): The spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri continues to play a vital role in strengthening unity among Sabah’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities, forming the bedrock of peace and harmony in the state.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Musa Aman said peace remains the most important element in shaping a stable society and nation, and must be preserved through obedience to Allah SWT and His Rasul, as well as a firm commitment to safeguarding unity.

In his Special Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1447H/2026M message, he stressed that unity must go beyond physical togetherness to encompass shared thinking, purpose and action.

“Without unity, society becomes vulnerable to division, which would be detrimental. True unity lies not only in bonds but also in aligning thoughts, goals and actions,” he said.

He noted that unity is key to social harmony, urging the people to respect cultural, religious and traditional differences, and to transform diversity into a strength that fosters mutual respect while dispelling suspicion.

Musa added that quality education, inclusive policies and efforts to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor are essential in promoting social justice and overall wellbeing.

He also called on the public to strive collectively for Allah’s pleasure by mobilising all available resources to improve livelihoods across spiritual, economic, educational and social dimensions.

At the same time, he encouraged Malaysians to extend assistance to those in need according to their means, describing such acts as a way to share blessings, strengthen relationships and reinforce unity, particularly during the festive season.

Highlighting the significance of Aidilfitri, he said the celebration is a time for joy, visiting one another and seeking forgiveness, in line with the community’s noble traditions.

“I pray that this year’s Aidilfitri will be more meaningful and joyous, further strengthening ukhuwah (brotherhood) and unity among Sabah’s diverse society and Malaysians as a whole,” he said.

He also reminded the public to prioritise health and safety during the festivities, advising moderation in food consumption and caution on the roads, noting the higher risk of accidents during the festive period.

Musa further expressed appreciation to security personnel for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and public safety, urging the public to remember their contributions and pray for their continued strength and protection.

Reflecting on the conclusion of Ramadan, he said Muslims had fulfilled their fasting obligations with sincerity and piety, and now welcomed Syawal with gratitude, marked by the recitation of takbir, tahlil and tahmid as symbols of victory and devotion.

Concluding his message, Musa and his family extended their Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings, seeking forgiveness and wishing all Malaysians, especially Muslims, a blessed and joyous celebration.
