BINTULU (March 1): A Chinese New Year (CNY) open house hosted by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the Civic Centre here on Saturday drew people from all walks of life.
Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming public support, saying the cheerful mood and warm interactions made the occasion especially meaningful.
He described the event as a reflection of Sarawak’s enduring spirit of diversity and unity, adding that it provided him with an opportunity to personally engage with community members and exchange views on local issues.
Reflecting on the past year, Tiong noted that Bintulu had faced significant challenges following severe floods that affected many families and businesses.
“As a result, the large-scale Chinese New Year gathering could not be held as usual,” he said.
“This year, we are grateful to finally move past those difficulties and gather once again to celebrate together.
“It is not merely a festive event, but a symbol of our resilience and collective strength in overcoming hardship,” he added.
Tiong said it was encouraging to see the town regaining its vibrancy, with businesses recovering and residents welcoming the New Year with renewed optimism.
He also expressed hope that his parliamentary constituency would continue to achieve greater progress in economic development, community building and public welfare improvements.
Thanking the public for their continued support and trust, Tiong described it as a vital source of motivation in his service to the community.
