Unoccupied house in Miri razed in early morning fire

MIRI (Sept 15): An unoccupied house in the Youth Settlement Scheme here was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call was received at 2.05am, and 17 firefighters from Lopeng and Miri fire stations were dispatched to the location.

“Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered a two-story, non-permanent structure fully engulfed in flames. The house, measuring approximately 30 by 20 square feet, was unoccupied at the time of incident,” it said in a statement.

Bomba said the firefighters proceeded to extinguish the fire and managed to bring it under control at 2.40am.

“After ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished and ensuring that the situation was safe, the firefighters ended the operation at 3.22am.”
