BINTULU (Aug 29): Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus’ Kolej Sri Rajang has reached out to those outside their community by donating beds and mattresses to a remote school.

The college, led by its principal Dr Tengku Sh Marliza Tengku Azmi, donated 20 wooden beds and 20 used mattresses from its dormitories to SK Kuala Tatau on Tuesday.

The contribution was received by the school’s headmaster Zulfaddly Ahmad.

UPM hoped that the contribution would provide much-needed comfort to the students, who have been studying in challenging conditions.

Such contribution has become a routine for Kolej Sri Rajang, where donations have been presented to several underprivileged schools in the Bintulu area, along with fire-ravaged longhouses.

A few days prior, the college had donated 60 beds and 60 mattresses to SK Hermanus Assan in Sebauh, for which the school’s headmaster Ibrahim Setok thanked them upon receiving the contribution.

Also joining in this noble endeavour are Kolej Sri Rajang Deputy Registrar Rosidah Basir and its Head of Fellows Abdul Rahim Habib.

Kolej Sri Rajang hoped that together these small acts of kindness would create ripples of comfort and hope in the hearts of students they served.

It highlighted that education is not just about textbooks and lectures, but also creating a nurturing environment where every student could dream, learn and find solace.
