UTS celebrates 8th convocation with 297 graduates

SIBU: The University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) 8th convocation ceremony will see a total of 297 graduates conferred with their academic scrolls.

Throughout the ceremony, three graduates will obtain their PhD degrees, 26 graduates will receive their Masters degrees while another 268 will get their Bachelor’s degrees.

UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the convocation ceremony will also witness one outstanding graduate receiving the prestigious Chancellor Award and another two graduates receiving the Academic Award.

“A total of 29 graduates will receive excellent awards, leadership awards, industry awards and book awards as listed in the programme book,” he said in his welcoming speech at the one-day convocation ceremony here today (Dec 17).

The convocation ceremony was officiated by UTS Pro Chancellor, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall.

Khairuddin said UTS graduates are of exceptional quality, asserting that they are far from ordinary, with an employability rate of 97.53 percent as of August 2023, among the highest in Malaysia.

“The academic awards in the form of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees are not only approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

“Almost all academic programmes at UTS have been accredited and recognised by professional bodies from both within and outside the country.

“This includes the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM), Royal Institutions of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), United Kingdom, Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), Australia, Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM), Huawei Academy, and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest international learned society for computing.

“Therefore, we are all proud of the achievements of UTS graduates because not only have you succeeded academically, but your achievements are also recognised by local and international professional bodies,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister cum UTS Board of Governors chairman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and others.
